historic men with kauri trees new zealand I've captured a moment in time as these six 'historical' figures stop for lunch amongst Kauri trees. Typically the area they are in would have been quite scrubby with more undergrowth, ferns, tree fall, etc. But I have chosen to keep the composition clean and open. Although the figures have quite a generic look to them they could easily be of Dalmation origin as were a lot of early bush (Kauri) working settlers in New Zealand.

This work is currently at Zohar Gallery in Mt Maunganui.

Please inquire.

Guardian (Kaitiaki) is about NZ Maori and the important role they have of being Guardians or Kaitiaki of the land and of each other (their whanau). The woman is guardian of the child, they're both reaching out to touch the land that they cherish and care for.

Journey is set in Devonport, New Zealand around the turn of the last century. The Hotel on the corner is the old Flagstaff Hotel which was removed in 1900 and plans drawn up for a grand hotel to be built, called The Esplanade Hotel which is still there now. The title 'Journey' was chosen to show that the couple are on a journey together, the male, a sailor will soon depart on his journey and also that old Devonport, then very much just a little isolated naval town, was on a journey of it's own.
